WEEK 09 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hey guys sorry for the late update, it's been getting busy lately!

Fantastic job on the final Street Fighter project, you all did terrific, and since we've given you nothing but teamwork up until this point, this new assignment is an individual one, it'll help you develop characters hopefully for your portfolio yeah?

The new assignment that I had announced in class is the CHESS PIECE assignment. In class I had shown you guys a quick slideshow about what chess is and the pieces that make up the game. The slide was in the Transfer Volume but is now erased but chess is easy to study up on I'm sure you guys can find it anywhere you know?

Newest assignment!
CHESS PIECES

Your job this week is to:

  • Draw out TWENTY rough variation sketches for each character you draw. You re required to choose FOUR characters that relate to the pieces of chess so that makes up EIGHTY sketches. You can choose from either the King, Queen, Knight, Rook, Bishop, or Pawn. PLEASE INCLUDE THE QUEEN AND KING in your designs. The others you may choose. You may do 6 if you'd like after all 4 is the MINIMUM. Headshots and busts DO NOT count as a part of the full twenty, those are additionals.

  • Relate it to the chess characters. I'm not saying relate by looks don't give me generic "knights" or anything. THEY CAN BE WHATEVER YOU GUYS WANT! However, each character must fit that class role, and you must be able to explain why through looks and their movement. Study up on chess, what piece does what? How does one piece move on the board and how do they capture or defend, etc? Just because the king piece is "KING" doesn't mean you have to give me a literal King. Again, in order to do well with this assignment, you must study first.

  • Please make a reference sheet like you always do and post it before you post your drawings. You should have LOTS of materials in your reference sheet! Show us where you got the inspiration! Please present clearly, explain to us your characters, be prepared to answer questions from others!

  • Make a nice template! I'm sure you guys learned this from the last few weeks. Don't cram everything into one page! Putting all 20 designs into one page isn't going to look good!

That's it for this week. Hong is also coming back yay! He's excited to see you again, welcome him back when you see him! Good luck guys, have fun and can't wait to see your stuff!
