Week 3 HW ANNOUNCEMENTS

HEY GUYS what's up what's up So Jeong again.

Great job this week! You guys really showed a lot of improvement this time around, and showed us your flexibility and understanding of grasping styles. Now, it's time to see just how well you do that in group work! As you all know, in our line of work, you will all eventually be going out into the field and working alongside others. Whether or not you know them is not important, what's key is team dynamics, understanding and communicating well with others, which will lead to successfully working together to get the project complete!

This week's homework assignment is for groups of 3(or 4) to pick a live action movie and a cartoon style like you guys have all been doing individually at this point. The goal is to have you all draw in the same style and by the end result, make it to where the movies you've chosen look as if they've all been drawn by one individual with the specific cartoon style you all chose. EACH TEAM MEMBER must do a minimum of 30-40 preliminary sketches, and each finalize TWO characters.  (By finalize we mean pretty clear, nice lineart. Don't worry about color yet no color!) Please don't do less that's uncool it is the minimum after all. That's like what you've all been doing up till now, it's just now been condensed down to two characters each! Easy right? So in a team of 3, we must see around 90-120 preliminary sketches all added up together, (Don't put them on a single page holy shit! It's ok if you have multiple pages of all of them! Don't jam pack a single page with millions of things please, make it easy on the eyes aka easy for us to read!) and SIX final character designs all lined up together on a single page. If you're that team with four members, for you guys it'd be around 120-160 prelim sketches+ eight final designs.(Does that make sense? If not please ask your fellow classmates or email me!)That way, you can also see whether or not you and your team's drawing style is consistent and similar or entirely off and different from one another.

Team leaders have been assigned, and you guys are simply in charge of organizing and bringing everything and everyone in your group together, and are THE ONES WHO WILL BE POSTING all of the collective work. So if you're not the team leader, we don't want to see your posts don't worry about it! Give it to your leader and they'll post it for you! (That doesn't mean dump everything on the team leader to do, please organize everything before hand so you won't burden/stress your leaders! This is a group effort after all, pull your own weight!) For the team leaders, the layout is pretty simple and similar to what you have been posting up until this point, it's just that you now have MORE to do. IMPORTANT: It's not mandatory that you guys do character study sheets this time, but if you would like to explore the style and show us by all means post it, the more the better! It shows you've been practicing! Please make a reference page for the movie you chosen, the cartoon style, and reference pages for each of the characters you will all be working on. Please put ALL OF YOUR TEAMMATE'S NAMES including yours on every piece of work. (If they're all super long, condense them!) Make sure the sketches are organized, and not scattered all over the place. Your sketches do not have to be clean after all they are sketches, but if you do scan and upload it, please make it to where it is visible when projected onscreen, and the paper you drew it on is no longer visible. It makes your art look unprofessional, and shows that you are sloppy or maybe even rushed, and that's not cool. Organization wise, it's pretty obvious: You have the movie, then the cartoon style, then collectively go down the list of preliminary sketches done by each individual along with the character refs(again, what you guys have already been doing up until this point!) then the final sheet! As for titling your posts, just do it the way you've been doing it up till now, but simply adding everyone's name into it.

Please post all your hw before Wednesday, so by Tuesday the latest. Don't post this on Wednesday. In all seriousness, unless you have technical issues or something comes up and you address it to me or Hong, you guys have no excuse. It's unprofessional and sloppy to be late, and not to mention who the hell wants to be scrambling all this together when class starts? I'm pretty damn sure none of you want that, it's embarrassing. It will reflect your poor work ethics and shows us you don't know how to listen/ pay attention.

Other than that, the only thing I can stress is to have good communication skills and have fun! Some of you might not know each other, but please talk amongst your teammates, get a better understanding of how each individual works and from there you'll all have a broader view on what it feels like to work as a unit, and not individually. If you succeed, you succeed together! However if you fail, you'll also fail together; it takes a lot of consideration, understanding, and effort to work alongside others because you're all responsible for each other. Help your fellow teammates out, figure out what is easy, what is hard, what works and what doesn't. A good team works best when everyone is on the same level, track, and mindset. Voice out your opinions, your teammates will understand, don't simply slink back into the corner and grumble about how you dislike doing something, it's a bad mood setter and everyone around you will feel like shit if you're not involved/excited, and the work will come out looking like shit. That's just about everything you guys need to know! I've gotten into as much detail as I can, so I hope this is all very clear to everyone. If you're still confused about something no worries no worries, please email me at dunesandd@yahoo.com.  Good luck everyone and please, have a rad time with this assignment!
