This week's HW is to each draw 10 more final sketches INKED and CLEAN and to mishmash bits and pieces from the ones you've already drawn to see if you can create more finalized versions( By mishmashing, we mean like if there's a torso you like on one character, or an arm or a head and you put them together to see if it works or not).If you're mishmashing make sure we can't tell if it's the EXACT SAME ONES you did this week they gotta show some change! Then like you did this week, pick the best ones out of your sketches and put them in a final line-up. BLACK AND WHITE IS FINE FOR THE FINALS, BUT COLOR IS GOOD TOO, PREFERRED. Color makes your drawings pop though and we can really tell if it fits in the background or not. If you're doing black and white characters make your background black and white as well! After you do a black and white or color line-up, it's time to see if your characters all fit into your selected show's background. Put all of your characters into said show's background. They don't ALL have to be on one page background wise, you can put a single character in a single background or 2-3 just don't mash them all on one together.
Here are some examples from last year to help you guys out. This is only 3 characters you guys have to do 6/8 remember that! All of the characters must look as if one individual has drawn them!
Putting your names and logos on the background drawings look odd, so don't worry about doing that. But again, you can choose to put individual characters in individual backgrounds or do multiples! Whether or not you're doing color, remember that this chart plays into effect again:
Depending on what show your character is from, look at the lines, textures, shapes, and form. Does your show rely heavily on the line work? Or is your show entirely texture based with a great sense of form? This is key for finalizing your sketches, and will help you match the style of your show. The examples above show the style of Samurai Jack, which has NO LINES for the finalized and only for the sketches, and rely sheerly on Shapes, Form, and Texture. Does the background you chose have shading? If so, how can you apply that to your character? Does it deal with depth? Does it make your character stick out like a sore thumb, and if so, why?
I talked to several individuals this week about teamwork, so this is another reminder for everyone: PLEASE DO NOT DUMP ALL THE WORK FOR ONE INDIVIDUAL/YOUR TEAM LEADER TO DO. Please pull your own weight, line your own work, color your own work, create your own reference sheets etc etc. Your team leader's responsibility is to make the template, help others when struggling, and move you all towards the right direction, they are not here to BABY any of you. Help each other out, make sure no one does more work than another.
This being the last week working on this assignment, we expect them to be very CLEAN. There were still a few people with paper that could cleary be seen when scanned, yellow paper, and light drawings that were difficult to make out on the projector. Please clean them up and please make sure it's presentable. Please don't post on Wednesday again. Most of you were great at posting early and on time, but there were a few that missed the mark last time, don't let that happen again please. You are all a team, work together and take into consideration that it isn't just your neck that's on the line. Don't think individually otherwise your team will suffer for it.
That's it for this week, Team leaders please post the way you all did last week, but again make it GREAT and better than any you've posted up from the previous weeks, this assignment is the buildup of these last few weeks, so blow us away! Have fun everybody, and good luck! If you have any questions or require draw-overs or you're simply struggling, ask your fellow teammates for help or contact me at dunesandd@yahoo.com. See you all next week! Great work again!
